Album Review: We’ve Got Our Hands on the Soundtrack Sampler for The Identical Starring Blake Rayne (Giveaway)

The Identical starring Blake Rayne, Ashley Judd, Ray Liotta, Seth Green and Joe Pantoliano opens in theaters Friday, September 5th. We’re giving away the soundtrack to one lucky reader.

Don’t mistake The Identical with an Elvis impersonation. At least that’s what Blake Rayne, who plays the main character, told Entertainment Wise in an interview.
Rayne says he drew from every 50’s and 60’s artist to create Drexel Hemsley yet, the hip shaking, black hair and deep soulful voice will make you think a bit.
The movie tells the compelling story of twin brothers unknowingly separated at birth during the Great Depression. DREXEL HEMSLEY becomes an iconic 50’s rock ’n’ roll star, while RYAN WADE (Blake Rayne) struggles to balance his love for music and pleasing his father.
I was lucky enough to get a preview copy of the soundtrack sampler which contains 12 of the 20 songs by Jerry Marcellino and Yochanan Marcellino from the film.  My copy was even autographed by Blake Rayne himself…woot.

I’ll start by saying Blake  has a great voice. I’m listening to “Gypsy Man” again for like the fourth time. I guess it’s safe to say that’s my favourite track.
The Morph Kings have 4 songs on the sampler including “Mellow Down Easy”  which is a bluesy down home track with lyrics like:
You better mellow down easy
you got a lot to learn
you better count your blessings
or you’re gonna crash and burn
Being that the movie is based in Nashvile, even one of the tracks is called “Nashville Tonight”, it’s a no brainer that it’s all country, blues and soul.
But, “It Don’t Come Easy” performed by Darcey & Mo has a disco vibe all around. I’m guessing that it’s probably a track that comes later in the movie and fits in that period.
The other track by Darcey & Mo is “Angel of Mine” which is my 2nd favourite track on the sampler.
There’s something for all fans of 50’s, 60’s and 70’s era music and is something you can easily play for your kids to listen to while doing your Saturday morning chores or going for a ride in the car.
