Describe your music for those who have never heard it.
My sound is unforgivingly ‘me.’ I think so many people try so hard to conform. Like, the moment you start doing things for approval, or start doing things unnatural to you, you’ll slowly start to perish. So my music is a testament to me; my life, my feelings, my experiences, etc. There’s no input from no one else, no other labels or writers or anything are ever involved, ’cause who can tell MY story better than me?
The way I can? I think that’s a big reason why I stand out but, you know, I think the biggest reason people gravitate towards my sound is
Tell us about your new single “Ring Fingers”.
‘Ring Fingers’ is a record I did with producer,
I won’t say too much about the concept though ’cause I’d rather everyone go listen for themselves. However, I will say one thing about it real quick: ‘Ms. Tyra, I’m serious,…[LOL].
What inspired you to pursue music?
I was always a creative spirit. When I was a real small kid — my mom would tell you — I was the only kid she ever saw get a coloring book and color perfectly within the lines. Right from there my creativity transitioned to
Then, you know, the older I got, the more hip-hop and pop-urban culture consumed my interests. I wrote my first rap in fourth grade, 14 years laters I would have never dreamed this, though. Ever.
Greatest career accomplishment so far?
Becoming my own label. That was BIG. I remember back in like 2011 or ’12, or something like that, and I saw an interview with Tech N9ne. I just remember him saying, “Everybody ‘wants’ an opportunity and dream of opportunities, but a TRUE
That stuck with me hard ’cause, at the time, I couldn’t understand how to. How could somebody create an opportunity from nothing? And it took years of trials and
What has been your biggest challenge?
Everybody goes through sh*t. I mean, I’ma be honest, I battled depression for a long time. Like, just a lot of things in my life were upside down. You know, you leave your college graduation to go see your big brother in the ICU fighting for his life with a missing limb.
Then the next day, you in the hood and you drive past a memorial mural for one of your homies [that] you ain’t even know was dead. Ain’t nobody
What is your music goal for the year?
This is the break-out year for Lou Anthony & the label Ludlow Sounds. My music goal is a platinum album, a Grammy nod, and just a lot of blessings and joyful times being with/around love. Real pure honest love. I believe that this album SELF is ‘it.’ This is the ‘one.’ So right now I’m getting it ready for you guys, it’s been in the works since around August 2017. We faced some setbacks and what not but we’re here and the album is definitely on its way. It was originally set for January, but we still got paper work and stuff to handle on it so the new date is in Summer 2019!
