Fitness Corner: Pilates for Dancers – Get the Dancer’s Body (Review)

I received this Pilates for Dancers DVD for review at the same time that I got The Salsa Dance Mastery System. I have to be honest, I wanted to try it out, not because I’m a fan of Pilates but, the opposite.
I’ve never really given Pilates a chance but, I’ve always lumped it in with Yoga as something I wouldn’t have the patience to do.

The thing is, I’m pretty high strung and a lot of my friends are really into Yoga and Pilates so I’ve added them to my bucket list for the new year starting with some equipment I’ve gotten and this DVD.

I don’t know much about Pilates so, I’m definitely and official beginner but, I do like to dance so I’m hoping this DVD is the key to making me fall in love with this particular fitness crave.

The first thing I’ll say is that you really do get a good workout with Pilates. I don’t think I’ve stretched out that well since I was in dance classes back in highschool and we won’t be doing the math on how far back that was, thank you very much.

I loved the warm up routine. I never warm up properly when I work out or go running and I think it’s important, especially now as I’m older and not quite as naturally limber as I used to be.

The alignments is where I need to have the most patience. I really want to get them right and I actually feel more comfortable doing them in the privacy of my own home rather than a class where I feel like everyone knows more than me and I just kind of go through the motions to look like I know what I’m doing rather than getting it right and benefitting from a proper stretch.

This DVD is fun and like I said with the Salsa DVD, it can even be used for a ‘girls night in’ but, you might want to do the workout first and THEN drink the wine.

I really do like Pilates for Dancers and recommend it for people like me who are either beginners or on the fence about the whole Pilates thing to begin with.
