Let’s be honest, rats tend to get a bad rap. It’s not their fault. They’re odd size and quickness in scurrying about plus, those teeth.
Children don’t usually have a fear of any animal. They’re curiosity and natural sense to be doting would have many of them wanting to keep a pet rat. I know my daughter was one of those kids wanting a pet rat. She still wants one.
First time author Mildred Potash loves all animals and she took this love and wrote her first book, an adorable children’s book called “Millie and Cupcake” which is about, of course, a little girl and her pet rat.
We spoke with Mildred as part of our Author’s Spotlight Series and asked her 5 quick questions about being an author , her new book and what’s next for Millie and Cupcake.
What inspired you to become a writer?
Honestly, my pet rats inspired me to write my book. I got the idea from my own experiences with my pet rats. I never saw myself becoming a children’s author.
Who is your favorite author?
I love to read Nicholas Sparks books. Some of his stories keep me in suspense and keeps me hooked. I also enjoy reading JoyceMeyers because she is inspirational.
What is the last book you read?
The last book I have read is “God Is Not Mad at You” by Joyce Meyers. I really haven’t had much time to read due to school work and writing my books.
Describe your book in 30 words or less:
Rats make great pets.
Have you written any other books?
I am in the process of getting my second part of “Millie and Cupcake” book illustrated. I am also creating a “Millie and Cupcake” mini series. Part one of the mini series is called “Cupcake’s Adventures”.
You can purchase a copy of “Millie and Cupcake” on Amazon.com or Barnesandnoble.com.
