Mission Impossible Takes the #1 Spot Again; Fantastic Four Flops

Tom Cruise does it again with ‘Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation’, coming in at number one in the second week of its release. Summertime + Cruise + the Mission Impossible franchise is always a winning combination. Too bad the same can’t be said for Fantastic Four.

Dogged by bad revues the movie is considered a flop despite coming in at number two. The creepy stalker thriller “The Gift” starring Jason Bateman came in at number three domestically and rounding out the top five are Vacation and the super hero movie Ant-Man.

Maybe with Fantastic Four flopping will get a bit of a break from super hero movies. The market seems a bit saturated and it seems studios are just churning them out without thoughts to plots and storylines. You have to remember that comic book fans are all about the storyline.

Let’s see if Cruise can hold on to the number one spot again next week with the N.W.A. bio-pic “Straight Outta Compton” (check out my interview with the actor who plays Suge Knight) and “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”, an adaptation of the classic 1960s TV series set to be released.
