They say that the best material for writing a book is drawn from your own experience. Author Brandon Schmaltz has successfully followed that advice with his latest short story book, “I Guess I’ll Go to Rehab“.
The subject of this book while very touchy is very much needed during this time as people have fallen into depression due to the pandemic leading to an over indulgence of drugs and alchol.
We spoke to Brandon Schmaltz as part of our Author Spotlight Series to share more about his new book “I Guess I’ll Go to Rehab” and himself. Enjoy the interview below and we hope you take the time to support this independent author by following him on TikTok and Instagram and purchasing his book. What inspired you to become a writer?
I’ve always had a passion to write and this past year I finally sat down and said to myself “I need to just do this” and now here I am a three-time published author and aiming for a career in writing.
Who is your favorite author & why?
Probably Nicholas Sparks, one summer I was sent to my grandmother’s and she had all of his books and I just became in love with them and have read every single one.
Describe your book in 30 words or less.
A short story that’s raw and bleeding with candor. Very emotional.
Why should we read it?
Really it’s for anyone who wants to experience what it’s like to sit in a rehab facility and do the hard work and fixing all the mistakes you’ve made.
Are there any other books you’ve written that you’d like to share?
The One and Starved. Both short stories by Brandon Schmaltz.
What books have influenced your life most?
Probably Dear John, by Nicholas Sparks. It helped me fall in love with my wonderful husband.
