Spring is right around the corner and that means your kids are itching to get outside. Start thinking now about the many different activities you can do to help them free themselves from winter’s grasp and embrace Spring. To get you started, here’s a list of 9 of them.
1. Take Your Kid to a Park
Kids and parks go together like peanut butter and jelly. Find a good playground and your kid could spend hours there swinging back and forth or going up and down slides. If you are worried about the spread of germs, take some disinfecting wipes with you to use on the equipment.
When they get tired of the equipment, take them on a walk or a ride through the green space and point out nature’s to them.
2. Go Bird Watching
Grab a pair of binoculars and watch some local wildlife. Birdwatching is a good way to improve your child’s awareness. Get them a notebook so they can sketch what they see and take notes on the many different birds.
3. Make a Bouquet of Flowers
When the flowers come into bloom, spend a nice day outside picking your favorite ones and create a bouquet. Arranging the bouquet will boost their creativity. Who knows, maybe you have a future florist on your hands! When the flowers begin to wilt and die, press them between the pages of a book and preserve them for later art projects.
4. Go on a Picnic
Grab a blanket, a picnic basket and your favorite sandwiches and take advantage of the nice weather to go on a picnic with your little one. For some reason eating outside just makes food taste better. Just make sure to protect their skin and eyes from the sun’s harsh rays with sunscreen, sunglasses, or a sun hat for boys or girls.
5. Fly a Kite
A spring classic, flying a kite is something that every kid loves. Maybe it’s the glimpse of freedom as the kite soars through the air, or maybe it’s just the cool designs, kids of all ages enjoy getting their hands on a kite string. If you don’t want to buy one, there are many kite-making tutorials online which will give your kid a chance to stretch their creative wings.
6. Go on a Hike
Take your kids on a trip through the great outdoors. There is no better way to give them the gift of nature than with a beautiful hike. No matter the difficulty it’s a good way to get some good exercise for your kid and it’s a great way to get them away from any screens. This activity might be a little tougher on the little kids (or your back if they make you carry them), so try to make their walks a little shorter, or if possible bring a stroller if it will fit on the trail.
7. Go on a Bike Ride
Take your kid on a ride throughout your neighborhood. This is a great way to foster independence and bond with your kid at the same time. If you feel a little unsafe letting your kid bike through the city, find a park or even an empty lot to ride with them in.
8. Sports
Spring baseball and soccer are right around the corner and if you haven’t signed up for them yet, now is the time! Sports are a good way to learn how to cooperate with others and how to learn how to cope with failure. This one activity might be difficult depending on your state’s covid regulations.
9. Easter Egg Hunt
One of the most fun activities for kids is looking for easter eggs, whether that is the ones filled with candy or the ones you dye yourself. Easter egg hunts have become pretty much non-denominational now, and most cities and towns host their own for kids to participate in.
These are just some of the many activities that you can do with your kids this Spring. Hopefully, you liked one of these, or they sparked an even greater idea. Have fun!
