“Jonathan’s Walk” Documentary Shares A Man’s Road to Life After Prison (#WatchNow)

Jonathan's sits in jail

Jonathan has been in prison since he was 18 years old. He’s missed out on many milestones in his 3 children’s lives including his daughter’s first day of school. He was also not able to be there for her through a tragic moment. Thousands of experiences lost with his family and his wife while he was incarcerated for 15 plus years.

When you’re a family living with someone in prison it’s not easy. I’ve been there. You have to go about your day to day life and keep them in the loop of what is going on. There comes that moment when they are to be released back to society and there are certain parameters and rules that must be followed and have to be adhered to like a halfway house through transition, probation, having to find a job when applications ask, “Are you a convicted felon?”

This short documentary by Prison Fellowship takes you on Jonathan’s journey as he is set to be released from prison and be reunited with his kids, his wife and society as a whole.

I watched the 5-part documentary and though it’s not long (each episode is 5 minutes long) it is filled with a lot of emotion, anxiety, forgiveness and most importantly truth and love.

Though America is home to only 4% of the world’s population, we house more than 20% of its prisoners.

Jonathan has a support system surrounding him and Prison Fellowship plays a big part in that but unfortunately many prisoners don’t have that same support which does lead to recidivism (past prisoners committing crimes once they’ve been released and re-entering the prison system).

Prison Fellowship was kind enough to share the first episode of “The Restoration Series: Jonathan’s Walk” and I’m going to share it with you. You can watch it below.
