High school graduation is done and now comes the preparation to head off to university. It can be stressful getting everything together. While some students stay on campus, more and more are opting to live off campus to have a bit of independence and a lot of times because it’s more cost-effective.
How do you even begin the search for the perfect place? What’s the best way to find the right accommodations without compromising location and cost? We decided to put together three tips that will hopefully help you to find the best options if you are choosing to find off-campus housing.
Seek Out a Location that Specifically Houses Students.
Looking for a place to stay during the semester can be as difficult as finding an apartment or home. Dealing with realtors, filling out applications and looking at different options. You also have to keep in mind who your neighbors are going to be. More and more students are opting to stay at places like Student One in Australia.
They are a facility that houses students, so they know exactly what you’re looking for. Their facilities are located near transportation and close to the universities. Living around other students will make it more comfortable. It’s almost like living on campus but, with the freedom of independence.
Ask the College for Recommendations
Colleges and universities know that many students are looking to live off campus. The guidance counselor may be able to make some recommendations on what areas to look near and they may even know what the process is like.
Check Listings Near the Campus Early
Listings for available apartments and housing, especially the ones closest to campus usually pop up and get scooped up early. Once you know what school your child will be going to, you should subscribe to listings in that area and check them often. The sooner you find something, the better the price and it’s one less thing off your checklist.
What option do you think would work best for you? Would you opt for a student housing facility like Student One, ask the college for recommendations, check listings near campus or perhaps all three?
