…I found myself thinking about how most movies cost a lot of money to make. And how this one cost nothing. Nothing that is…. except everything. – Rory Feek
You don’t have to be a country music fan to have heard the story of Joey and Rory Feek. They made news nationally with the heartbreaking reality that Joey had terminal cancer. She passed away leaving Rory to care for their new daughter, Indiana who has downs syndrome.
The country music darlings decided to take a break from the spotlight in 2014 to have their first child and to enjoy a quiet farm life. Rory began filming and blogging about their day to day lives. What he didn’t know then was that he was capturing the last days of their lives together as a couple and that Joey would be leaving him soon.
I wasn’t really sure if I wanted to watch the screener for this movie, knowing that the ending is so sad. But, I’m really glad that I did. To Joey, With Love is so much more than just a documentation of Joey’s struggle with cancer. It shows a great life with great family, happiness, laughter and a whole lot of love. It’s a very inspiring and uplifting story and one that gives a message of love hard and enjoy life and the people around you at all times.
The film starts when Joey was pregnant with their daughter, Indiana and prepping to give birth. We see them preparing the house and preparing their lives for the new baby.
Indiana was born with downs syndrome and that seemed like it might be an obstacle in their lives but, they didn’t see it that way at all. What Joey and Rory didn’t know was the rode they lay ahead was much much deeper.
You will be happy watching this movie. I know what you’re thinking. How could you say that when Joey died of cancer? Easy. This movie is all about LOVE. It shows the day to day interactions of their family despite what was happening and the eventual outcome.
After watching this movie I felt for their family and I had a deeper appreciation for the little things in life and my own family that give me pleasure. You can have money, fame, or whatever status seems important in our society but, ultimately it’s about what you do in this life and surrounding yourself with people that make you feel good. That’s what Rory and Joey did and because of that their story will ring on and touch many lives.
i promise you will not regret purchasing this movie. It made me cry. It made me sad for Rory. It made me wish I knew Joey because she just seems so cool. It’s the perfect gift for the ones you love. Yes, it’s heartbreaking but, 97% of it is all about loving life and loving the ones you love daily because Rory didn’t start this project thinking his daughter would be born with downs syndrome or that he’d lose the love of his life…he started it just thinking, “i’m going to capture our life”. He did. REAL LIFE.
