Kids Corner: Brooklyn BabyFEST & Family Jam Takes Greenpoint By Stork….Err Storm

It was indeed a rainy Saturday but, that didn’t stop families from coming out to Brooklyn Expo Center on November 1st for the Brooklyn BabyFEST & Family Jam.

Sponsored by The Mamas Expo  and TownSquare , Brooklyn BabyFEST is a 1-day expo for expectant and new parents that serves to inform, educate and sprinkle in some fun.

Luca, who was there with his mom Lisa certainly took in all of the fun. He had a smile on his painted face as he left to head home and probably take a long nap after all the excitement of the day.

He did enjoy the Halloween themed bouncer and the gymnastics section where instructors helped kids tumble and leap to their hearts content.

Luca wasn’t the only one getting his face painted. As I walked up to Bella’s Face Painting booth she was working her magic on 7 year old Jade who was there with her dad Jorge

Jade could barely stand still to take this picture with her dad before she was off and running to the next adventure.

While the kids were busy being kids, parents had an opportunity to sit in on different workshops like New Dad Bootcamp, Childcare and Preschool 411 and this  Baby Bearing & Strollers workshop put together by Caribou Baby and Wee Babe.

Then there were the vendors who were mostly from the NYC area and even directly from Brooklyn. From food to lessons to health foods, there was plenty to go around.

I had to chat with Josh from Freshroutes.com because, well I’m greedy but, also as I’m moving towards healthier eating his company seems like a good place to start. I’m sometimes at a loss as far as recipes and Fresh Routes does it all for you. They put together the healthier meal and send it off with the recipes. Voila.

Speaking of starts, Biligual Birdies also caught my eye. It’s a foreign language and live music program. What’s great is that it they teach a vast number of languages: Spanish, French, Mandarin and even Hebrew. As multi-cultural as Brooklyn is that’s an amazing program. Plus I love the music aspects the most, of course.

Which is why SageMusic booth caught my eye. If I see instruments I beeline instantly. When I was in school we had to take an instrument and it’s kind of sad that music has been taken out of New York schools completely but, a program like Sage Music is a great alternative. Kids should learn music.

Oh, I have to mention Bundles organic juices. They’re Brooklyn based and I loved their dark berry beverage. It’s incredible. Packed with nutrients and prenatal vitamins, it’s for expecting and new moms. I didn’t care, it was delicious. Can I have some more please.

All in all, I had a great time as did everyone who attended. I even got a little baby fever especially after seeing these Pedipeds in my gift bag (which I will be featuring in my Holiday Gift Guide).

We’ll see in 9 months since I did get a College Nannies gift certificate for a night of free babysitting. Can’t let that go to waste. JUST KIDDING!

Anyway,  parents and expectant parents make sure you don’t miss it next year. You can find out more information by visiting BrooklynBabyfest.com
