We had a chance to chat with Chaz about his music and and he also shared his first music video to his single ‘No Evil In Her’.
Interview with Hip Hop/R&B Artist Chaz DeFranco
Describe your music for those who have never heard it.
Deeply personal, yet really easy to relate to.
Cool, tell us about ‘No Evil In Her’, what does it mean to you?
I think this song is the song I wish I would have written a couple years ago when my ex left me and I was all depressed and shit, because this song represents exactly what I was feeling in the first few weeks going through that break up. But at the time, I guess I was just too caught up in it to actually put pen to paper in a way that made any sense. Does that make sense? *Laughs*
It actually does! So what inspired you to pursue music?
I’ve always loved music and I’ve always loved writing ever since I was a kid so, I think it just came naturally. I wrote songs for years before putting anything out. I have like 5 or 6 notebooks full of lyrics back home. I’m also a really expressive person and music is to me, one of the greatest ways to express yourself.
What would you say is your greatest career accomplishment so far?
So far, I think, my greatest accomplishment has been to do it all by myself. on top of being the artist, I’ve been I’ve also been my own manager, publisher and graphic designer.
Of course, I had professional help when it came to recording, mixing and mastering and also for shooting the video, for which I had an amazing team of very hard-working people! But still, there’s no big label that paid for it.
All the expenses came straight out of my pocket. As a matter of fact, I’m actually in the works of starting my own independent record label. My EP ‘DeFranco Records’ will be the first release.
So overall, I think I did a pretty good job at producing a coherent body of work from nothing.
What has been your biggest challenge?
The deadlines. Yeah, probably the deadlines, But so far so good though. It’s been really stressful at times but I’ve been on time, everytime, so far.
I say that because I put myself in the position of the fans and I think there’s nothing worse for them than seeing a project being consistently delayed.
It also shows a lack of professionalism and work-ethic, so as far as music (and life in general) is concerned I don’t make promises that I can’t keep!
Who is your favorite artist and why?
Favorite current artist? I’d have to go with Drake for that one. I mean, the guy has it all right now,
He just broke a Billboard record dating back to the Beatles for the highest number of songs appearing on the chart, he’s on top of the game right now and he’s in and out of relationship with some of the most beautiful women in Hollywood (Zoë Kravitz what’s up?). What else do you want?
What’s your career goal for 2015?
For 2015, I’m just gonna keep releasing more music and doing more videos, maybe try to book a few shows here and there, I already got a few things lined up, but I can’t say much for now. I can say this though, I’ll be releasing at least one more EP in 2015.
