Hip hop artist Yu$$o joins us from Canada for our Indie Spotlight Series and shares his new single ‘Make A Move’.
There’s a lot of really great hip hop and music in general coming out of the Canadian indie scene. I’ve feature a couple of great artists and joining them in that ranks is up and coming rapper, Yu$$o.
This young artist has a really nice flow and is looking for people to ‘understand his story and respect his grind’ as he rhymes in his new single ‘Make A Move’ which was produced by Mister Lies, “Respect my grind.
We spoke with Yu$$o for our Indie Spotlight Series about the new single, which you can hear below, and his goals for the upcoming year. Also, as a bonus you can check out a snippet of the video for ‘Make A Move’ at the end of the interview.

Describe your music for those who have never heard it.
My music is a reflection of me as person in the form of sonics. For those who’ve never heard I can say my music is thought provoking combined with an artistic flare with beats and production.
Tell us about your new single ‘Make A Move’.
I wrote this song after a moment that took place making me realize an important life lesson. I discovered that no one will take sympathy upon your situation because we all have our own struggles to deal with.
That if you want something bad enough you’re going to have to go out and get it by any means necessary to show that it’s more than just a want. It’s a need. In the song I speak about knowing the moves I need make but at the same time being stuck. With the song itself I wanted to know if anyone could relate to this feeling so I knew I wasn’t alone on this.
What inspired you to pursue music?
My inspiration to pursue music comes from the satisfaction I get in playing back a song I just made and feeling like… wow, I started something and completed it.
I don’t think I’ve ever really been good at that “one thing” until I started pursuing music. Most people usually have that one hobby that they can keep their focus on or know that one field they want to go into once schools out.
I never had that until I started writing and recording. To know that I finally found that one skill I’ve been blessed with makes me know that I was born for this.
What has been your greatest career accomplishment so far?
The biggest thing to happen for me so far I’d say was winning Survival Of The Illist (SOTI) which is a Canadian Hip Hop touring competition. More importantly, I won at a venue called Babylon in Ottawa Ontario. I’ve always said that Babylon is my favourite venue, one of my top 3 favourable venues in the city so that was dope. I’ve never been one to really care much for winning competitions but still I participated and had a lot of fun. SOTI was a really good experience though, and it opened doors for me. What has been your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge has been balancing everything. I’ve been doing most of it on my own. Also getting friends on board and motivated with what I plan on building has been hard. I’m not just as a rapper, but an artist.
Who is your favorite artist?
Charles Hamilton. I feel his creativity was unlike anything I’ve seen from an artist. I feel that in the position he was in he could’ve done a lot more to prove that but that’s a whole other story…lol
What’s your career goal for the year?
My goal for the year seeing as how we’re mid -2014, is to finish working on my solo original project and have it out by mid-next year at the least. I’m also working on a lot of side projects and bringing ideas to fruition that all tie into the release of my debut original
