♫ Indie Spotlight: An Interview with Hip Hop Artist Dynamics Plus + His New Video “Phase Shift”

An interview with hip hop artist Dynamics Plus for our Indie Spotlight Series. His new album “Rocket Science” is available now.

I’ve been getting some really great music video submissions lately and that makes me very happy.
This creative number from hip hop artist ‘Dynamics Plus” is called “Phase Shift” from his new album “Rocket Science”.
Dynamics Plus who hails from Long Island has a really nice flow that he successfully pairs with clever lyrics.
The premise of ”Phase Shift” is an artist’s 15 minutes of fame and why they should appreciate their turn.
In the video you see a man creating miniature models of people and vehicles using foil from a ‘rap toy kit’ he receives in the mail. At one point he creates a life size replica of a person made from wire and foil. It’s pretty amazing to watch.
Dynamics Plus sent us the video to share with you and he also took a minute to answer some questions for our Indie Spotlight Series.
You can purchase his new album Rocket Science here. Now, check out the interview along with the video below and let me know what you think.

Describe your music for those who have never heard it.

It’s a lyrical approach with lots of wordplay. It’s the kind of music that gives you more with every repeat listen. The album itself has a lot of offer both musically and artistically. I’m hoping to give you an experience that will stay with you.
Where did the idea of “Phase Shift” come from?
The title is from the original instrumental. While writing the song, I just kept seeing places to insert that phrase and it stayed. It’s a change of phase: your life is one way for a while, you have a certain relationship with your business partners, label and fans and at some point that changes. If you take that time and place for granted, you can be shocked when you realize things are totally different.

What inspired you to pursue rap music?
The song writing potential. So many other forms of music are driven by vibe and tone. Rap allows for so much more to be said, literally. You can capture and detail a moment so precisely it becomes the ultimate platform for sharing a vision or concept. Once you drive off the commercial-concern highway, you can go just about anywhere. That’s true artistic freedom.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Staying focused on a singular target. In previous times, I would have already moved on and started a new project. I’m learning to complete the process and add a bigger and longer push for my releases. I think Rocket Science really deserves it.
What’s your career goal for the year?
To press further in the same direction. This album has had more support and business behind it than anything else I’ve ever done. I want to make a video for every song on the album. I’m well on my way to doing just that.
Career-wise, I’m in a better position than I have ever been in before. So, I’m learning from my own Phase Shift and being glad I’m even here and enjoying the new attention while it lasts. It’s exciting because there are so many things I haven’t done yet.

Like what, exactly?

Well, there are additional resources I haven’t tapped yet and a few pieces I haven’t put in place yet. So far we’ve released a few videos, but I am still quiet on terrestrial radio.  That comes next, but I want to be fully prepared when we start that campaign. We are still in the earliest stages of a full moon mission.
So in closing, this really is rocket science?

Yes, that’s it exactly. This album is my rocket launch. I’m making coarse course corrections as we fly. I know where we are going and I’m using the feedback from this album as fuel. That’s why platforms like yours are so important to an independent like myself. It keeps the burners lit so thanks for taking the time.
