Interview w/Director Jay Pickens
When did you first become interested in films?
I’ve been interested in arts and entertainment, including films since I was a young child, like from around the age of 6.
What influenced to become a director?
Actually, I do a lot more than just directing. By necessity, as most indie filmmakers know, I must wear many hats. Writing, special effects, sound, 3D animation, music and the list goes on. In short my main motivation for becoming a filmmaker was and is the need for more diversity on film.
How did “For Curvy Girls” come about?
‘For Curvy Girls’ for me was a documentary that was long over due. I actually thought that I would just be adding to the library of films done on this subject, but much to my surprise I couldn’t find a single one.
Tell us in 30 words or less why we should see this movie?
It is one in a long list of stories not being told. Raw, honest and passionate. If you want more diversity on film, vote with your wallet.
What has been your biggest challenge putting this movie together?
Well, this project being a documentary was actually quite unique in terms of the challenges it presented. Whereas the usual challenges would be budget constraints, finding locations and finding reliable people to work with, this project had no shortage of  willing participants.
Where can we catch the premiere of the movie?
If you are in the ‘DMV’ area [DC/Northern VA./Maryland] there will be a live screening in Rockville MD Saturday September 13th. The film will be available through video on demand the next day. You can find all the info at www.JayPickens.com or www.TheThrillCompany.com
What are you working on next?”
There is the ongoing web series ‘The Sisterhood’, the Sci-fi adventure ‘The SAFAR’ and ‘For Curvy Girls’ pt2.
