Swell Soubra has had a passion for acting since he was a child. Counting Johnny Depp, Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro as inspirations the Geneva, Switzerland actor has had his sites on Hollywood and is determined to reach his goal.
Soubra originally took a more conservative path and became a successful banker but, he soon found his passion calling for him when he participated in and won the Paris reality show “les 5 Touristes”.
There was no turning back as he travelled to Los Angeles to hone his skills at Lee Strasberg Film and Institute and The Stella Adler Academy and created a niche for himself as an accomplished actor in movies, short films and plays.
You get a sense of Soubra’s dedication to his craft and passion for what he does in the way he describes the different roles and films he’s worked on in such detail.
In a recent interview he talked about his favorite role to date in a play called Middletown, “I loved playing the “Public Speaker” .I was the lead in the play, directed by Milton Justice. It was a great experience working with an Academy award winner.
Milton allowed me a certain freedom on stage which was amazing. It was a privilege to work with such a perfectionist and successful Hollywood Director. Priceless.”
His path to Oscar has landed him a few upcoming feature roles including, Our House, which he explains is ‘a very down to earth story that talks about a father, Sean struggling with his 9 to 5 job and ends up committing the worse imaginable things anyone could think of.
I love the script, first because of my character Kenny who tries constantly to find himself and his happiness. Something that I guess I have been through. Second, because of the existential questions my character asks himself.’
Another upcoming role is “The Other Side” which he enthusiastically shared is one of his favorite scripts adding, “The Director won several awards such Santa Barbara Film festival, so I am very excited to show what I can do.”
From successful Swiss banker to Paris show winner to plays by acadamy award winning Hollywood directors, there’s no doubt that Swell Soubra is determined to carve the path he wants for himself and that Oscar isn’t too far off the horizon.
