♫ Indie Spotlight: Torrey Mercer Shares New Video “I Believe In Me” & Talks About Her Anti-Bullying Foundation (Interview)

Now I Believe in Me
It’s taken time to build me up
But it’s my will that keeps me strong

Independent pop singer Torrey Mercer is already making a name for herself on the music seen winning Best Teen Artist and Inspirational Artist of the Year at the 3rd Annual Artists In Music Awards this past February and Best Inspirational Singer in 2009 “Hollywood’s Best New Talent”.

As the talented artist’s star began to rise she was invited on an anti-bullying tour and realized her voice wasn’t just powerful as a singer but, impactful as a motivational speaker for kids from Kindergarten to High School who have dealt with bullying.

This led to her starting her own foundation where she reachs out to kids of all ages on a regular basis in hopes that one day, she could change some of their lives, and help them on their road to recovery.
Her latest video “I Believe in Me” serves as a sort of anthem to her anti-bullying campaign. Torrey describes the song which was co-written by Melodye Perry of Baby G Music and Alex Teamer aka ATEAM (Quincy Jones, Lauryn Hill, Xzibit, After 7, Wiz Kalifa, and more) as a message about being an imperfect human being”.
The video, directed and produced by I-95 Picture, follows Torrey through numerous anti-bullying assemblies from local elementary schools.

Torrey chatted with us and shared her video for “I Believe in Me” as part of or Indie Spotlight Series.

Check the video and interview below and remember her name because her spotlight will continue to grow and shine brighter.

What inspired you to pursue music?

I think it was always the place for me. I had been singing in theater for many years prior to officially starting to make my own music, but, it felt like a natural transition. I’ve always been a performer, and so making the transition to recording artist was actually a really awesome process.
Who is your favorite artist?
Ahhh, it’s so hard to pick one. But, I guess if I had an all-time favorite, it would be Kelly Clarkson. Everything about her is real to me and she’s just so freaky talented. She’s a storyteller with her songs, she believes in girl power in a positive way and she can sing her booty off. What’s not to love?
What are your music career goals?
I plan to make as much music as possible in the coming years, all while touring all over with my anti-bullying assemblies. I just hope to expand as much as possible for the sake of the message, and to really overall have my voice and story heard for the sake of helping others.
What has been your greatest career accomplishment?
I think the foundation of my own anti-bullying assemblies. I am a motivational speaker for kids at elementary and middle schools, and it’s been an experience so rewarding I can’t even explain it.
Impacting other lives really is the biggest accomplishment to me, because I feel like if I inspired change, it really could help a lot more than just me and become something much bigger and more important than my own pursuits.
What has been your biggest challenge?

Personally, I think digging deep inside of myself for the sake of inspiring others, and bringing out pieces of my heart from my past experiences is what was the most challenging at first. But I’m proud to say that now I know that doing so was absolutely for the better.
