♫ Indie Spotlight: Jaye$ – ‘Babe Ruth’ Official Video + Interview

Oakland Rapper Jaye$ is definitely a fan of ‘90’s era west coast hip hop. You can hear the influence in his rhyme flow and self-produced beats.
His latest video “Babe Ruth” from his second ep “Light Skinned Brother 2’ is definitely raw with the lyrics especially the chorus but, it brings you back with the ol’ school beach party scenes and though Jaye$ rhyme style reflects a little of that Pac era west coast vibe it’s a dope flow that makes you want to put the song on repeat and ride out with the top down.

We got to vibe out with Jaye$ for a few and ask him 5 quick questions for our indie spotlight series.
Check the video first and the interview after the cut:

What does your name mean?
My name doesn’t have a deep ass meaning nor does it have some type of spiritual rapper shit behind it. It’s my first and last name combined. I first saw the name Jay_es on my uncle’s BMW license plate (that shit had European plates) so it looked cool on a M3 and I added the dollar sign for my own personal signature.

Describe your music for those who have never heard it.
Imagine Living in Oakland or Los Angeles in the 90’s when the jheri curl was in its death bed and 5.0 mustangs was at every event, my music fits the theme of the West-Coast in its golden age.

Who is your favorite artist?
2pac that brotha was crazy in juice I wouldn’t wanna fuck with him! But nah pac knew how to use his voice as a instrument which made him truly a remarkable artist.
What inspired you to pursue music?
I wasn’t the best in sports nor was I an A + student Rapping gave me the ability to express myself and make those around me acknowledge who I was.
What has been your greatest career accomplishment so far?
Smoking a J with wiz khalifa hahaha nah but, seriously getting my Album on Itunes that was dope. The money was doper though.
What has been your biggest challenge?

Putting aside my pride of being a perfectionist and putting out a dope ass project that my peers enjoyed. Insecurities man, I tell ya.
