All hail! Our royal Prince is back to do what he does best, give us eargasms.
Fresh off the heels of announcing his new deal with Warner Brother Records, the purple one has released a new single called, “The Breakdown”.
Yes, you read that right, ‘a deal with Warner Brothers’.
This is not Prince’s first dance with the label. He was originally signed to Warner and released all of his albums including “Purple Rain” on the imprint but, things started to go awry with Prince feeling like he was trapped in a bad deal. I think he may have been committed to doing 10 albums under the contract. He also didn’t feel as if his later albums were being properly promoted.
As a result, Prince lashed out against the label and wanted off the WB wagon. He even changed his name to a symbol to disassociate himself from the being called Prince since that was what he was signed as under Warner. He also began performing with the word SLAVEwritten across his cheek.
Well, it looks like they’ve Kissed and made up. All is apparently forgiven. Prince released a statement saying, “A brand-new studio album is on the way and both Warner Bros. Records and Eye are quite pleased with the results of the negotiations and look forward to a fruitful working relationship”.
Just in time too, because the 30th Anniversary of “Purple Rain’ is coming up.
So, Prince has a new deal with Warner, he now owns all his publishing, a deluxe reissue of Purple Rain is in the works and on top of that he blesses us with a kick ass new single, The Breakdown which will be on his upcoming new album.
This is turning out to be a royally good year for Prince fans. Will we get a Revolution too?
Thoughts on the song?
