Ty-Tan is a talented up and coming rapper and part of the hip hop collective “The I” hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina.
The video for his latest single “Ghetto Mafioso” is directed by Hood-Crucial and features ‘The I’. The single will be featured on his debut album slated to be released in the Fall of 2014.
We asked Ty-Tan to share with us a little bit about himself for our indie profile series. So watch the video and then check out the interview below.
My biggest challenge has been fitting in while also being a standout
How would you describe your music?
On the surface my music comes off as being thought out but radio friendly but I think as people hear more of my music they will start to hear that I do have message and a point to my music.
My live performances are impactful, personal, and extremely passionate. They are the heart of his musical career and something in which he takes great pride. After a live performance, he wants his fans to leave the venue feeling as though they got to know him personally; like they just attended a great party and saw an old friend who took them back to the meaningful moments in life.
I consider my sound and music completely unique so I’m hesitant to place it in a specific “Sounds Like” category. If pressed at times I’ll say it’s a cross between J Cole, Meek Mill, and Eminem.
What inspired you to pursue a music career?
Music is all I’ve known for awhile that won’t leave me. I hear music all the time in my end and by pursuing it helps to from going insane.
Who influences you as an artist?
My influences vary. They include Jay-Z, Nas, Rakim, Mase, LL Cool J, and Outkast. Anyone who makes music that creates some type of feeling.
What has been your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge has been fitting in while also being a standout. I’ve found like to stand beside me intl I start to outshine them then I have to start all over again.
What is your greatest career accomplishment to date?
Getting support I’m getting from blogs like yours that help make my goals closer to coming true.
My goals are very simple, to being heard and slowly build awareness around the pharaoh movement which represents that we are sons and daughters of kings so we should be treated as such and carry ourselves in that manner.
