Great Apps to Share Music with Grandkids & Entertain Them

Some of my favorite days are when my grandkids come over to spend the day at our house. I love finding new ways to keep them entertained, especially since they don’t have all their favorite toys from home. It’s sometimes hard to come up with new activities, but I always try to do things that we can all enjoy together.

I noticed my oldest grandchild has been very interested in music lately and showing us some of his favorite songs. So last week I planned a music activity day so we could all listen and dance to music together. It was a hit!

Fun Music Based Activities for Kids

I really wanted to make sure that both the younger kids and older elementary aged kids were having a blast, so I prepared a few music activities we could do while we were listening. We got up and played a few movement games like Musical Chairs, followed along to action songs, and took turns teaching our own made-up dance moves. We even got crafty with a few music art projects and made drawings inspired by the music that was playing. Everyone felt more connected with the music and it was wonderful to share.

Listen to Age Appropriate Music

Before our music day, I wanted to make sure I had some kids music ready. Children’s radio stations are a bit hard to find on a normal AM/FM radio, so I decided to look for a digital radio online. While I was searching for resources for kid friendly music, I found this helpful list for sharing music with grandkids that immediately gave me everything I needed.

Great Apps to Share Music with Grandkids

This list really made it easy to locate apps with free music just for kids so we could listen to songs the grandkids were familiar with, like Kidz Bop and Disney songs, and there was no worry about any inappropriate lyrics coming up. I ended up getting a lot of use out of the Kidloland app that I found off the list, which had a lot of fun nursery rhymes we could learn together. It turned into quite the sing-along!

Share Quality Time with Music

Really one of the best things about listening to music together is just getting to spend time together. After we listened to all the kids’ favorite songs, grandma and grandpa also got to share some of the music that they listened to as kids. One of the great joys of being a grandparent is getting the opportunity to teach your grandkids about their family history and what life was like before they were born. And what better way is there to learn about your grandparents than through the music they listened to? I hope that my grandkids will keep the tradition of sharing their music with their own grandchildren someday.

Conclusion

We had a really special day listening to music together and connecting with each other through music. Not to mention all that dancing had the kids ready for their nap, which was a nice added bonus. I highly recommend you have a music day with your own grandkids and make some of your own great memories!
