Fashion Corner: Let The Geek Meet The Chic In You!

geek

And you thought geek was boring! Not any more millennials! Geek Chic is the new look in town and it has carved its own niche amongst fashionistas, thanks to Alessandro Michele. Perhaps, you are a natural geek and there’s nothing wrong with that either.

Your outfits determine your personality, and whether you are a geek or just a styling geek you can still choose to be smoking hot or downright bland! But if you can look chic while being comfortable, why not take that up right! Everyone deserves some attention, isn’t it?

Maybe a simple workaround of your wardrobe can get you the right geek look, or you can shop online and get affordable options. You could surprise your boyfriend, or finally ask out that cute guy next door, or actually get naughty with your new found confidence!

These basics won’t cost you time, so you aren’t exactly following the Coco Chanel line of looking great but arriving late! They are simple and out there, so go get them, girl!

1.The Striped Sweater

A classic sweater over a plain or plaid shirt, with collar, pulled over it is the 90’s geek style. Go in for a summer sleeveless to beat the heat, but make sure you get tweed or wool woven, it’s kinda retro and original.

A grey-black combination works perfectly for the goody two shoes look. Team that up with loose fitted, wide-bottomed trousers or high waisted skirt with a neat side pin for your fringes and you are almost ready to go.

2. The Glasses

An undeniable accessory of the geek cult, the prescription glasses, often giving away that you read too much which in fact today is too many digital devices! Get them, and get good designer ones that speak volumes in style, rather than picking gaudy ones off the convenience store counter. You get great styles of affordable designer glasses online, so you can even get two or more in the price of one and create other looks after you are done being geeky! You can get clear lenses if you don’t have a prescription, just get the glasses!

Trick is to stay minimalistic but vintage: So avoid chunky oversized or rimless frames, instead go for metal full rimmed glasses or thin acetate glasses. They should be wide enough but not too large and sleek enough but not too mature.

3. The Satchel

A girl needs her bag right! And what could be more comfortable than the side satchel! It large enough to fit in all your essentials and small enough to not resemble a bulky backpack. Dark Dark Dark, no light tones here at all. Stick to the leather duffel, or a PU one, you can muse a suede- make sure it resembles the messenger bag – well it fits all your journals! Or at least you are giving away that impression! Wink Wink!

4. The Shoes

The final piece of the jigsaw, your shoes. Mary Janes, Oxfords and Loafers are the perfect seals to the geek look, besides they are extremely comfortable ( I swear I would ditch my stilettos even on the LBD) Yeah, just visualize That’s 70’s show and you are almost there!

Just 4 things, that’s all you need for your new found love of your inner geek or chic! Just remember you cannot confuse retro with geek, so you clothes must be loosely fitted, hair slicked back in a pony or pin, polished shoes and clean ironed trousers. Ditch make-up to get this to the T. Happy geek to chic girls!
