Mysterious restaurant in NYC with a built in vault. ✓CHECK. Mysterious unannounced celebrity in the building. ✓CHECK. Red velvet curtain with something to hide. ✓CHECK. Delicious aroma of sweet richness and decadence filling the air. ✓CHECK. All of this could only mean one thing. The stage was set for the Lay’s All-Star Flavors reveal and I was one of the lucky invited guests.
I mentioned to a friend that I was invited to attend a special reveal of Lay’s All-Star Flavors that they were bringing back from their flavor vault. The first thing he said was, “I hope Chicken & Waffles is one of them because I couldn’t find it anywhere here in NYC”. I was so excited to report back to him that Chicken & Waffles was indeed one of the flavors along with Smoked Gouda & Chive and Wavy Truffle Fries.
But, let me back track. Walking into Trinity Place Bar & Restaurant I had to go through an actual vault to get to my destination, a back room. There I was greeted by a table to my right of “mystery” chips since the flavors were yet to be revealed, a table to my left where we would sit and indulge in a taste test along with actor/comedian Josh Peck and a thick velvet curtain were the bags of chips “Lay” hidden until their unveiling. Yes, this restaurant has an actual vault. Two of them. You can read about that here.
Before the unveiling we had to play a little taste test guessing game. It involved eating tapas and I was hungry so I was all in. Each tapas represented one of the 3 flavors that Lay’s would be revealing that night. Can you guess from my plate which tapas coincided with which flavor?
After stuffing our faces and guessing, the suspense was finally over and Josh Peck did the honors of pulling the curtain and sharing the flavors making a comeback.
Lay’s All-Star Flavors Revealed By Actor Josh Peck
It all happened so fast but, that’s okay, I got pictures for you guys and also a gift bag for me with each flavor to take home.
I was going to try and save some of the Chicken & Waffles chips for my friend who clearly has been going through withdrawals but, the chips were too good and the bags were all gone once my kids got a hold of them. It’s okay though because the flavors will be available everywhere but, only for a limited time so make sure you go out and get some and maybe stock up.
Here’s a little more info about the Lay’s All-Star Flavors that are back by popular demand:
- Lay’s Smoked Gouda & Chive – From “Flavor Swap,” this flavor was inspired by the rise in popularity of specialty cheeses, like Gouda, as seen in 2016 flavor trends.
- Lay’s Chicken & Waffles – From the first “Do Us a Flavor,” this flavor is the perfect blend of fried chicken, crispy waffle and buttery-rich syrup flavors and was inspired by the entrant’s nephew and his love for this popular savory morning dish.
- Lay’s Wavy Truffle Fries – From the third “Do Us a Flavor,” this flavor has hints of garlic and parmesan with a light truffle flavor and was inspired by the entrant’s love for truffle fries, a love so great she sought out restaurants in her area that put their own local twist on her favorite side.
