Vanabode : Learn To Travel on Just $20 a Day (Review)

How often do you say, “I need a vacation!” I personally said it just the other day as I looked at pictures my friend was sending me from the carnival in his homeland of Trinidad. It was 5 degrees here in New York City as I looked at those pictures. But, then I looked at my bank account and realized an impromptu get away vacation is not in my budget.

Vacations for most people aren’t exactly in budget. You have to plan and save sometimes for months. I know people who place deposits and pay monthly on cruise vacations that aren’t happening for almost a year and a half  and even after all that saving and people still manage to go over what they’d planned to spend.

But, what if you could vacation and travel for just travel forever on $20 a day? Seems impossible right? According to Jason Odom it’s very possible because he’s been doing it for over and he’s written a step by step book to show you how you can do it too.

OF COURSE I had to read this book and review it for you guys because this right here is valuable information.

Jason Odom has adopted and created a lifestyle called Vanabode. He basically camps, travels and lives on just $20 a day. You might think that’s extreme but, you would be surprised how many people are more and more drawn to that simple lifestyle especially with jobs being harder to find, people are starting to realize they really don’t need as much as they thought to get by on a day to day.

Like I said, the concept of living out of a van may not seem like it is for everyone but, Odem goes into great detail about every aspect, angle and scenario that you can think of that by the end of the book you’re feeling ready to give it a shot.

Some of the key elements covered in the book are:
  • What type of van you’d need
  • The type of equipment you need
  • What you need to stock in the van,
  • How to begin paring down what you own and basically preparing yourself to leave that salaried cushy job and paycheck you’re used to.

He even covers things like food, hygiene and sex.

You’re going to get a pretty honest breakdown of what you would need to do and what works from someone who is living the Vanabode life for many years but, he didn’t just up and decide to do this overnight.

He started slowly, first taking 4-day weekends with his wife while they still had jobs and then they gradually put in for longer and longer vacations until finally they were just travelling full time. He also says that they didn’t have all the answers. They made a lot of mistakes and learned through time what worked and what didn’t.

So, if you’ve been considering just packing the bare essentials and travelling the world or even if you want some key suggestions on doing it here and there this is a great and informative book to own with a deluge of information for just $27.
