Health Corner: Is Krill Oil Better Than Fish Oil? (Review)

I’m a huge fan of Fish Oil vitamins. I take it on a regular basis whether I’m on a health kick or just being my natural lazy self.

I feel better when I take it, like I have more energy and besides it’s supposed to be incredibly healthy for your heart.

The one component that people have an issue with is the after taste of fish. I’ve tried brands that claim you won’t get that after taste but, no matter what, it’s still there though more subtly.

But, the  key factor driving people to Krill Oil supplements is simply that it is the main source for Omega 3. The fish that you find in Fish Oil do not produce Omega 3. It is found in their system because they eat Krill.

My curiosity has been peeked with this sudden interest in Krill Oil. Once Dr. Oz cosigns something, the masses go in droves.

I received a bottle of Omega 3 Krill Oil fromNumber One Nutrition to sample and review. I couldn’t wait to see if there would be a difference.
What is Krill Oil ?

Krill Oil comes from Krill. Krill is a small shrimp species, the main food source to many omega 3 rich fishes.

What is Fish Oil?
Fish oils come from fatty fish, also known as oily fish, specifically the tissue of fatty fish, such as trout, mackerel, tuna, herring, sardines, and salmon.

How do they compare?

KRILL OIL x  FISH OIL
  • Krill is a Natural source of Omega 3 – 6 – 9
  • Studies show that Krill oil is 3 times more potent than fish oil.
  • Clinically Proven to be 37.2% more absorbed by the body than Fish Oil
  • Contains Powerfull Axshantin Antioxidants
  • Dr. Oz Recommends Krill Oil as a source of Omega 3
  • Easy to smallow pills and no aftertaste or fish burps.

My thoughts.
First, I will say that the Krill pill is indeed much smaller and easier to swallow than the fish oil pills I’ve taken in the past.

What threw me off was the smell. It has a very strong smell of I would say ‘dried shrimp’. That makes a lot of sense since they are made from small shrimp, DUH.

However, I was not prepared for how intense the smell would be. I did wind up putting the bottle in the refrigerator in hopes that the smell would dissipate somewhat.  Taking the pills cold helped a lot.

Ultimately, I think it’s a matter of preference though Krill has higher levels of antioxidants. I personally would stick to fish oil over Krill but, may change my mind if the scent were to improve.

You can purchase your own bottle of Omega 3 Krill Oil from Number One Nutrition at Amazon.com for $22.99 with a money back guarantee.  Test it out and let me know your thoughts or if you’ve tried both Krill and Fish Oil let me know which you prefer in the comment section below.

In the meantime, I found a chart that compares Krill and Fish Oil and think it will be beneficial to you guys in making your decision.
