Beauty Corner: Have You Tried Vitamin C Serum As Part of Your Skincare Regimin Yet?

Vitamin C Serum has been around for years in the beauty and skin care industry and suddenly has had resurgence in popularity partially due to advancements in the serum.

I’m going to take a wild guess and say it also has to do with the fact that a lot of doctors including Dr. Oz always mention that vitamin c serum is a great natural alternative to plastic surgery.

I always love putting you guys on to the latest and greatest in products out there and vitamin C serum was on my list of things to try. Especially after this rough New York City winter, my face needs some TLC.

There are so many serums to choose from and ultimately I went with a company called Valentia.
Their Even Glow Vitamin C Serum comes in the opaque bottle with dropper like most of the other serums out there. This serum is 20% vitamin C which is the highest recommended concentration to put apply to your skin.
What are the benefits of Vitamin C Serum?
Even Skin Tone
Increases Glow & Radiance
Absorbs Rapidly
Boosts Collagen Production
Reduces Wrinkles & Fine Lines
How was the Valentia Even Glow Vitamin C Serum?
One thing I always mention in my skin care reviews is that my skin is very sensitive which tends to make me wary of purchasing beauty products, especially if they’re a bit up there in price. It would really suck to shell out a decent amount of cash and then have a break out.

Yes, I could return the product but, let’s be honest. How many times have you said you’re going to take something back only for it to sit there for weeks and eventually you just throw it out.

I received my Vitamin C Serum from Valentia and the first thing I noticed when I opened it was that it smelled so good. I wanted to eat it. It wasn’t an overpowering smell but a nice faint orangey citric aroma.

I washed my skin the first day and applied it. It wasn’t oily or greasy. It went on my skin smoothly and dried fairly quickly. The consistency is like a slightly thicker toner. I continued this ritual daily.

Here’s what I noticed after a few weeks:

My skin felt softer to the touch

After I typed that I thought, gosh that reads like a commercial, but it’s so very true.

 My skin looks even toned

Like most people, the skin on my face is sometimes two-toned. It’s not that noticeable but, since I don’t wear foundation you can probably see the slight differences between the color tone on my cheeks versus my forehead.
That’s something a nice tan will clear up but, it’s not summertime yet and I think my skin looks great right now. It’s as if I AM wearing foundation.

What about Acne breakouts?
My skin is sensitive in the sense that it will break out in a red itchy rash. Acne has never been a problem for me but, there are reports that some people with oilier skin may experience acne breakouts using Vitamin C Serums in general.

Though an acne breakout was not an issue I had, I thought I’d pass along the suggestion Valentia recommended for anyone using the serum that experiences that type of breakout whether using their product or another company’s serum:

1) Vitamin C serums can sometime spark a breakout when they are first used. This happens because the serum is drawing out toxins from your skin and often after repeated use, sometimes for a few weeks, the skin adjusts to the new level of nutrients it is receiving daily and these blemishes (amongst others) disappear.
If this is you, we suggest lowering the amount used until your skin adjusts.
Note: If this strategy is too much “tough love” for you, we understand.
2) You may want to start off using a small amount daily and only in the evening. Be sure you are using a high quality skin cleanser before bed and in the mornings as well. This will leave your pores cleaner and less likely to be clogged, reducing incidents of breakouts.
This also helps the serum to absorb better into the skin.

Would I spend my own money to purchase this product?
I really liked the Valentia Even Glow Vitamin C Serum. It did wonders for my skin tone and my face feels smoother to the touch.
But, of course the real question is whether I’d spend my own money on the product  and my answer is yes, I would.

The price had me a little hesitant only because I’m so darn cheap but, the bottle has lasted me more than 35 days so it comes to less than $1 a day which is worth my skin looking and feeling this great in my opinion.

As a matter of fact I’m going to purchase a bottle since this bottle is almost done.
