After Action And Professional Mentor Review – interactive self-development

I was given access to the  Professional Mentor and the After Action Review programs offered by Quickfocus.com for review.

The program is described as your step-by-step guide on how to achieve desired personal or business benefit on time and to budget by using an Agile approach.
Professional Mentor is your agile project management guide. Whether you are a Project Manager, Developer, Tester, Professional Mentor can help you.

After reading that, I thought to myself, ‘what does that mean?’ So, as soon as I got my log-in information I jumped right in to see what it was all about.

After looking at both the programs for a few minutes I deciphered that in layman’s terms, the Professional Mentor gives you the tools and suggestions on how to get a project done effectively and on time and keeps you focused on what needs to be done while the After Action Review tracks your progress and thoughts through the duration of the project and keeps you accountable.

Now let’s put it to use.

Profession Mentor

I’m still not really sure I grasp how to use this program effectively. I think that the language used makes it hard for me to ‘get’ it.

There’s a “How To Get Started” Video but, it doesn’t really tell me ‘how to get started’. It explains the different sections, there are 6 of them:

Philosophy, Principles, People, Process, Practices and Products

Each section has Guidelines, Free Downloads, and something called “in practice” which gives a scenario of that particular section in action.

What is not explained is how to use the different sections throughout the years subscription time. Are you supposed to focus on one section a week? Are you supposed to implement all 6 at one time. It’s not clear.

The After Action Review when opened is a calendar with task sections. There’s no “How to Use” tutorial to accompany it.

I see what the program is trying to do but, there are no instructions (or at least none that I can find) that explain how to use the program.

I think it would be best to lose a lot of the jargon and just describe the steps simply and clearly if this is to be a program that people and businesses will be using on their own or make the interactive part visible.

I’m going to spend a little more time with it and revisit this review again in maybe a months time since the subscription to the service is for one full year. In the meantime, you can check out their video for yourself.
